A vaginal yeast infection is usually caused by Candida and often causes itching, redness and white discharge. The symptoms resemble other vaginal conditions. Have an assessment for a first episode, pregnancy, recurrent symptoms or insufficient recovery.
- Intense itching or a burning feeling around the vaginal opening and labia.
- Redness, swelling, small cracks or painful skin of the vulva.
- Wash the outside with lukewarm water and do not use vaginal douches, perfumed soap or deodorant.
- Dry the skin gently and wear loose, breathable underwear if tight or damp clothing worsens symptoms.
- Make an appointment if this is the first time, you are unsure whether it is thrush or symptoms do not go away after treatment.
- For urgent GP care outside office hours, call HAP 9252. Call Ambulance 912 only for an immediate threat to life.
